Prisoner in Disguise is the sixth solo studio album by Linda Ronstadt, released in September 1975. It followed her breakthrough success with Heart Like a Wheel and helped establish her as one of the leading voices in 1970s country-rock. Produced by Peter Asher, the album combines country, rock, folk, and pop influences while showcasing Ronstadt's exceptional ability to reinterpret songs from a wide range of songwriters. Rather than relying on original material, Ronstadt assembled an eclectic collection of songs by writers including Neil Young, J. D. Souther, James Taylor, Lowell George, Jimmy Cliff, and Dolly Parton. Highlights include ""Love Is a Rose,"" ""Heat Wave,"" ""Many Rivers to Cross,"" ""Tracks of My Tears,"" and her early recording of ""I Will Always Love You."" The album's sound is more varied than Heart Like a Wheel. It moves from the country flavor of ""Love Is a Rose"" and the title track to the Motown-inspired energy of ""Heat Wave,"" the gospel-soul intensity of ""Many Rivers to Cross,"" and the tenderness of ""The Sweetest Gift,"" a duet with Emmylou Harris. The supporting musicians included future stars and respected session players such as Andrew Gold, J. D. Souther, and James Taylor.

Linda Ronstadt Secures Her Position as the Premier Female Vocalist of the 1970s: Prisoner in DisguiseIncludes Covers of 'Love Is a Rose' and 'I Will Always Love You'Reissued at 45RPM for the First Time for It's 50th Anniversary and Elektra 75: Mobile Fidelity's 180g 45RPM 2LP Set of 1975 Record Plays with Superb Purity, Detail, Tonality, and DefinitionIf there was any doubt whether Linda Ronstadt would emerge as the premier female vocalist of the 1970s, the question became moot when she dropped Prisoner in Disguise in 1975. Picking up where she left off on Heart Like a Wheel, the singer pairs with the same perfectionist-oriented producer and many of the same session pros on a follow-up in every way the equal of her 1974 breakthrough. The platinum-certified set not only established Ronstadt as an all-time great. It confirmed her as the voice of the decade, a performer the press soon deemed 'The First Lady of Rock.' Ronstadt turns to her career-long strengths - interpretative covers, roots-based music, aching balladry - and seamlessly jibes with a Hall of Fame-worthy cast that includes James Taylor, JD Souther, and David Grisman.Sourced from the original analog master tapes, pressed at Fidelity Record Pressing, and housed in a Stoughton gatefold jacket, Mobile Fidelity's numbered-edition 180g 45RPM 2LP set plays with reference-caliber definition, depth, and dimensionality. The definitive vinyl version of Prisoner in Disguise, it lifts prior veils that impeded the gorgeous singing and craftsmanship gracing the 11 songs. The elevated degrees of clarity, presence, and separation exceed those of even Mobile Fidelity's long-out-of-print 33RPM reissue. Vocals resonate with superb tonality, openness, and naturalism. Ronstadt's wide-spanning range and varied subtleties come across with rich, transparent detail. Nothing less than a candid look at a singular songbird at her peak.1/4' / 15 IPS Dolby A analog master to DSD 256 to analog console to latheNumbered 180g 45RPM Vinyl 2LPNUMBERED SPECIAL EDITIONTrack ListSide One:Love Is a RoseHey Mister, That's Me Up on the JukeboxRoll Um EasySide Two:Tracks of My TearsPrisoner in DisguiseSide Three:Heat WaveMany Rivers to CrossThe Sweetest GiftSide Four:You Tell Me That I'm Falling DownI Will Always Love YouSilver Blue
