Limited transparent violet colored vinyl LP pressing. Unreleased until 1964, six years after Johnny Cash's 1958 departure from Sun Records for Columbia Records, Original Sun Sound of Johnny Cash spans both his first and final recordings for the label. The early "Wide Open Road" shows the singer still under the influence of Hank Williams, but the sardonic, Charlie Rich-penned "Thanks a Lot," from one of his final Sun sessions, finds Cash beholden to no one but himself.

Never released on CD, and unreleased until 1964, six years after Johnny Cash's 1958 departure from Sun for Columbia Records, Original Sun Sound spans both his first and final recordings for the label. The early "Wide Open Road" shows the singer still under influence of Hank Williams (as well being a rarity in featuring the steel guitar of A.W. "Red" Kernodle, who left the group shortly afterwards), but the sardonic, Charlie Rich-penned "Thanks a Lot," from one of his final Sun sessions, finds Cash beholden to no one but himself. There's also Cash's self-penned gospel song, "Belshazzar," an unusual inclusion in that his producer, Sam Phillips, usually recorded only the performer's secular material.

Includes: (1) copy of "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash" comic book
In 1976, the legendary Johnny Cash, recognizing the power that the comic medium had to reach a younger audience, wrote a comic book biography titled HELLO, I'M JOHNNY CASH. This comic told Johnny's life story: his childhood, rise to stardom, struggles with fame, and ultimately, the redemption he found. This historical release has been out of print for decades. Now, celebrating the 50th anniversary of its initial release, and coinciding with Local Comic Shop Day and New York Comic Con, Z2 and The Johnny Cash estate have teamed up to make the Man in Black's seminal comic available once again with covers by original artist Al Hartley, as well as Chip Kidd and Tim Bradstreet.
