Souad Massi - Sequana

"Sequana" is the tenth album by the French-Algerian singer-songwriter Souad Massi. While her music was previously characterised by folk and chaabi, the musical spectrum is now expanding to include sounds from the Sahel, the Caribbean and Brazil, produced by Justin Adams (Rachid Taha, Tinariwen, Robert Plant). Souad Massi continues on her path as an engaged, liberated woman who sings about the things she cares about. Nine of the ten tracks are penned by her. Guests include Piers Faccini and flutist Naïssam Jalal. The goddess Sequana watches over the freshwater springs of the Seine and was considered a healing power in Gallo-Roman times.
