Keith's voice was recorded by phone from Ohio State Penitentiary, USA. Cleveland-born poet, writer and activist Keith LaMar, 53, has spent almost 30 years in solitary confinement on death row for a crime he didn't commit. His entire ordeal is detailed in his book, Condemned. A collaboration with Brooklyn-based, Catalan pianist and composer Albert Marquès, FREEDOM FIRST is the first album in history by an artist on death row. Keith LaMar is scheduled to be executed by the State of Ohio on November 16, 2023. We intend to stop them. This is not a normal album: it is a product of love, hope and search for justice, a project where a brilliant collective of musicians amplifies Keith's voice.
