Sydney musicians Imogen Grist (Babitha) and Marcus Gordon (Spookyland) met on a dating app in 2021. In the months that followed the couple formed a band and decided to tie the knot. Bonding over a mutual affection for the classic love duets of Nancy and Lee, Sonny and Cher and Gram and Emmylou, Beth and Blue was conceived as a means to experiment with the tradition of the love song.
